Herodotus on Darius

Darius (son of Hystaspes) became king after Cambyses. He married Cyrus´ daughters Atossa (who had been married to Cambyses) and Artystone and married the daughter of Smerdis (named Parmys) in order to unify the Persian kingdom under his rule.
