by Cyril Aldred

This book has many copies of common and less common Egyptian art works, and a commentary from the eminent Egyptologist Cyril Aldred. It is a bit wordy in places, and some of his interpretations are now questioned. However, the book is still a great place to start for art lovers.

This book by Aldred offers a comprehensive and insightful view of Egyptian Royal Jewelery. Aldred´s detailed discussion of Egyptian jewellery is accompanied by some beautiful photographs and drawings, and is well worth a look for anyone with and interest in jewelery.

The Complete Valley of the Kings
by C.N.Reeves and R. H Wilkinson

This book is a good introduction to the Valley of the Kings with detailed plans of each tomb. There are beautiful pictures and a good background section on each pharaoh.


The Rock Cut Tombs of El-Armarna
by Norman De Garis Davies

An interesting description of the tombs of Akhetaten (Armarna), the city of Akhenaten, composed by the archeologist who investigated them from 1902-7.


The Tombs of Hatshopsitu
by T.M. Davis

A detailed and interesting book about the tomb of the famous female pharaoh, Hatshepsut.

House of Eternity
by John McDonald

A book about the beautiful tomb of Nefertari, Great Royal wife of Ramesses II.

Tyldesley gives a good general account of pyramid building in ancient Egypt.

The Complete Pyramids
by Mark Lehner

This is an excellent overview of the pyramids of Egypt complete with detailed diagrams and beautiful pictures.

The Orion Mystery
by R. Buvall and A Gilbert

Bauval suggests that the placing of the pyramids at Giza reflects the locations of the stars in Orion, and considers the meaning of the "air shafts" discovered in the Great Pyramid. His conclusions are interesting, if speculative, but many scholars do not accept his interpretations and he is accused by some of manipulating data to fit his theories.

The Giza Power Plant
by Christopher Dunn

Dunn suggests that the Great Pyramid of Giza is in fact an ancient power plant. While this theory does not have much support, the book is interesting and the ideas inventive

The Eyes of the Sphinx

This is a highly speculative work which suggests that an alien race helped the ancient Egyptians to build the Great Pyramid and the sphinx.
